Since 2006, the water and sanitation project has been one of our key focus areas. The vision of this programme is to ensure every individual in Bulega and the neighboring communities has access to safe drinking water. We drill and maintain boreholes for local communities and schools.

Bhante Buddharakkhita discovered that more than 100 households had no access to clean and safe water. As a result, UBC undertook this project aiming to provide a sustainable clean water supply and to improve sanitation to the local community.

Five boreholes have so far been drilled in Bulega, providing access to clean water and reducing walking distance to water sources for children and communities.

The fifth borehole was completed in August 2019 with the generous donations from an Australian charity group, VietCare.org. We are eternally grateful for giving water and life to the needy communities surrounding the Uganda Buddhist Centre.

Impacts:

  • Provision of safe and clean water,
  • Reduction of walking distance to clean water sources,
  • Improved living conditions and hygiene, and
  • Income generating activities for individuals in communities increased.
