The first and only Buddhist Primary School in Uganda was officially opened by Her Excellency Sasirit Tangulrat, the Ambassador of Thailand to Kenya in March 2022. Uganda’s news channel NTV used the occasion to speak about Buddhism in Uganda and the achievements of the Buddhist Centre. You can find short interviews of Her Excellency Sasirit Tangulrat about the meaning of the temple to the Thai community as well as of a student of the current Primary Six batch.

Buddhists in Uganda are now rolling out more in the communities to help people understand their teachings of wellness and meditation. The Buddhist monks who say that they were misunderstood by many when they had just come to Uganda are now using charity as a way of reaching out to the people to change the negative mindset towards them.

A renowned Buddhist Monk, the Most Ven. Dr Ashin Nyanissara from Myanmar visited Uganda and ordained an Egyptian and Ugandan monk to a senior level. The two monks received the title of “Upasampada’ which refers to the rite of ordination by which one undertakes the Buddhist life.
