Bodhi Tree Planting Ceremony – Mpigi | April 3rd, 2026
With great joy and reverence, we marked a special ceremony as Ven. Dr. Kaboggoza Buddharakkhita led a Bodhi tree planting ceremony at Mpigi.
The Bodhi tree holds profound significance in Buddhism. It was under the sacred Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya that Gautama Buddha attained Enlightenment over 2,500 years ago. Since then, the tree has stood as a timeless symbol of wisdom, awakening, compassion, and inner transformation.
Planting a Bodhi tree is therefore not just an agricultural act it is a spiritual offering to future generations, a living reminder of the path to liberation and mindfulness.

Uganda is blessed to have only a few Bodhi trees, making this planting even more significant. With this ceremony, we now strengthen the presence of this sacred lineage, ensuring that the teachings of the Buddha continue to take root both in the land and in the hearts of people.
The Bodhi tree we plant today traces its origin back to the ancient lineage preserved from India and Sri Lanka, where saplings have been carefully propagated for centuries to maintain this sacred heritage.
As it grows, may it provide:
- Shade for meditation and reflection
- Inspiration for wisdom and compassion
- A symbol of peace and unity for all beings
We extend our gratitude to all who participated in this meaningful event. May this Bodhi tree flourish and stand for generations as a beacon of Dhamma in Uganda.

Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
