Novice Monk Dhammarakkhita Embarks on Advanced Monastic Training in Sri Lanka
We are pleased to announce that novice monk Venerable Dhammarakkhita has embarked on a significant journey to deepen his monastic training at Asgiri Maha Vihara Pirivena in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Known for its rich heritage and spiritual significance, the Asgiri Maha Viharaya is a prominent Buddhist monastery and the headquarters of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siyam Nikaya. It also serves as one of the two custodians of the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, housed at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy.
Venerable Dhammarakkhita, who has been a novice monk since May 2021, has previously undergone a series of temporary ordinations before fully committing to the monastic life. His journey reflects a profound dedication to the path of Buddhism and monasticism.
Upon his arrival at Asgiri Maha Viharaya, Venerable Dhammarakkhita received a warm welcome from Venerable Narampanave Ananda Thero, the Principal of Mahavihara Pirivena. Ven. Narampanave expressed great pleasure and inspiration in welcoming a student from Uganda, demonstrating the global spirit of Buddhist education and practice.
This advanced training at one of Sri Lanka’s most revered monasteries is expected to provide Venerable Dhammarakkhita with a comprehensive understanding of Buddhist teachings, monastic discipline, and meditation practices. We are confident that the knowledge and experience he gains will be instrumental in advancing the growth and sustainability of Buddhism in Africa. By bringing these insights back to Uganda, Venerable Dhammarakkhita will play a crucial role in guiding and enriching local monastic communities.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Venerable Dhammarakkhita and wish him a fruitful and transformative period of study in Sri Lanka. His dedication and commitment serve as an inspiring example of the global reach and impact of Buddhist practice.
